2022 Co-op Student of the Year Celebration

These awards recognize students who have made exceptional contributions to co-operative education.

Co-op student of the year

Engineering Co-op & Career Services (ECCS) presents the Co-op Student of the Year Award to students who have made an exceptional contribution to co-operative education. The winners receive a plaque and a $500 prize in recognition of of their workplace and academic achievements, as well as contributions to McMaster and the greater community.

Undergraduate Co-op Student of the Year 

Devam Trivedi

Abishan Sathieshkumar, final year, Mechanical 

Co-op: Technical Project Management, Tesla 

In his role, he created CAD Models, engineering drawings, took on design challenges, managed multi-million-dollar projects, coordinated on-site machine installations, and was involved in troubleshooting production lines at multiple Tesla plants. He also took on a mentorship role and was involved in training incoming Project Management and Mechanical Design interns. 

His supervisor described him as “an ambitious and bright student who has demonstrated immense talent, grit, and resilience throughout his co op term. He is a strong independent learner who also knows when to ask for guidance and support – as such he has been a critical component to our team’s success.” 

Graduate Co-op Student of the Year 

Devam Trivedi

Devam Trivedi, Masters student, Electrical and Computer Engineering 

Co-op: Development Student, Department of Instrumentation & Control and Electrical Engineering, Bruce Power 

Devam is an all-star co-op student, who has helped many students land full-time roles as a mentor and member of the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) McMaster Chapter. 

“Co-op is a great opportunity to learn more about yourself and what you offer. I encourage every student to join the co-op and try to maximize the value of their time at McMaster.” 

His supervisor shares, “Devam makes a great contribution to the team and the business day in, day out, largely due to his enthusiasm to learn and support a variety of business objectives and teams.”
