At a year‑end celebration recognizing the achievements of Engineering's more than 70 clubs, teams and societies, those contributions took centre stage. The event highlighted how these student‑led groups help participants develop critical technical and transferable skills that strengthen their readiness for co‑op placements and careers beyond graduation.

When the McMaster Engineering Concrete Toboggan Team (MECTT) chose Inside Out — or, more specifically, Insled Out — as their theme for the 2026 competition season, they couldn’t have known how closely the themes of the film would mirror their experience. 

Federico Formica, a McMaster University PhD student with the Centre for Software Certification (McSCert), has earned a major international honour: the ACM SIGSOFT–SIGBED Frank Anger Memorial Award.

When her son, Aly Orady returned to McMaster University to receive an honorary doctorate in June 2025, it marked a full-circle moment for Soraya Orady. A three-time McMaster Engineering graduate, Kokaly is a software safety engineering leader at General Motors as part of the Canadian Technical Centre where she and her team ensure the safety of the software that powers automotive systems like driver assistance and autonomous driving.

For Ashong, who conducts advanced biosensing research in the Niko Hildebrandt Lab, the honour reflects far more than scientific achievement. It acknowledges a journey shaped by cross‑continental study, formative mentorship and a commitment to fostering research spaces where everyone feels they belong.
