Ask a Faculty of Engineering student about a defining moment in their time at McMaster University, and chances are they’ll point not to a lecture hall but to their experience on a club, team or society. These extracurricular — and often co‑curricular — communities are where theory meets practice, friendships form and students begin to see themselves as engineers.
At a year‑end celebration recognizing the achievements of Engineering’s more than 70 clubs, teams and societies, those contributions took centre stage. The event highlighted how these student‑led groups help participants develop critical technical and transferable skills that strengthen their readiness for co‑op placements and careers beyond graduation, said Jodi Buckley, Manager of Co-Curricular and Student Engagement in the Centre for Career Growth and Experience.
“You make our faculty stronger. You bring people together,” said Heather Sheardown, Dean of Engineering, in a video message to attendees. “You turn ideas into experiences and challenges into lessons learned. But most of all, you elevate what it means to be part of McMaster Engineering.”
That sense of shared purpose resonated with students like Eric Tang, a Mechanical Engineering international student from China and a member of the McMaster Mars Rover Team. “In clubs and teams, we all speak the language of problem‑solving and design, and that is what brings us together,” he said in remarks to event attendees. “We may come from different places all around the world, but we are all driven by the same desire to build something meaningful.”

Bachelor of Technology Association
Delivered three Industry Nights with approximately 300 attendees each, strengthening industry exposure for BTech students.
Baja Racing
Placed 1st at Rowan Rumble 2025, alongside strong finishes at international Baja SAE competitions.
DeltaHacks
Hosted DeltaHacks 12 with 600+ attendees and 144 projects, supported by 50 judges, 50 mentors, and 16 sponsors
EcoCar
Improved 0–60 mph acceleration from 19.8 to 8.5 seconds, following extensive vehicle testing and calibration.
Institute of Transportation Engineers (McMaster Chapter)
Hosted its 3rd annual Industry Night with record attendance, reinforcing strong industry–student engagement.
iBioMed Society
Secured over $2,000 in sponsorship for a successful industry night, connecting students with leading organizations.
McMaster Computer Science Society
Rebuilt its leadership structure and delivered 10+ academic help sessions, supporting students across multiple year levels.
