Sarah Dickson-Anderson, professor in the department of civil engineering, has been appointed to serve as Acting Associate Dean, Academic in the Faculty of Engineering.
She will start in the role on July 1 for a one-year term.
Her appointment follows news that Steve Hranilovic will begin his new role as vice-provost and dean of graduate studies on that same day.
“I am excited to take on the role of Acting Associate Dean (Academic). It will be a privilege to work collectively with students, staff, and faculty towards the Faculty of Engineering’s academic goals and objectives,” she said. “I am also eager to collaborate with people from across the university on transdisciplinary and other academic initiatives.”
Dickson-Anderson has been with McMaster for two decades, having joined the university in 2002. In the past 20 years, she has served as associate chair, graduate and led the civil engineering department as acting chair on multiple occasions.
Dickson-Anderson’s research program is founded on transdisciplinary collaborations and focuses on water security in rural, remote and marginalized communities. She uses a coupled (physical and social) systems approach to balance the physical, social, environmental and economic considerations in the context of the local community. She brings her expertise in the field of hydrogeology to these collaborations.
