Overview

Timber started his career in 1996 at SPAR Aerospace in Brampton, Ontario. For about 2 years, he was fortunate enough to be responsible for the motion control of a full-size robotic dinosaur. In 1998, he moved onto ATS Automation in Cambridge, Ontario and worked there for 13 years. Timber’s industrial interest includes animated figures, servo tuning, fluid dispensing, vibration control, and design of production automation.

Timber joined the B.Tech. team at McMaster as an Assistant Professor in July 2011 bringing with him 15 years of industrial experience. With practical applications in mind, he employs well-designed demonstrations in the classroom to engage his students.

From July 2016 to June 2022, Timber served as the chair of the B.TECH. Automotive & Vehicle Engineering Technology Program. He particularly enjoys mentoring his students and assisting them with their career search. By collecting students’ salary information, Timber provides a real-time salary average for his students to benefit their salary negotiation. This employment statistics also encourages his students to be more active in their career search. In 2021/2022, within 6 months of graduation, over 80% of the graduates from his program found fulltime jobs or got accepted to graduate schools for various MASc. and MEng. programs.

In 2021, Timber was the recipient of the McMaster MSU Teaching Award. In July 2022, Timber was promoted to Associate Professor.

Currently, he is teaching 7 courses per year in the B.TECH. Automotive & Vehicle Engineering Technology program and the Manufacturing Engineering Technology Program.

Timber likes to play with audio systems in his spare time. He also manages and runs the sound system for his church in Hamilton.
