Mariam Dawood

The iBioMed Content Creation Committee is led by Mariam Dawood; a third-year iBioMed student specializing in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. She has served as an iBioMed Ambassador since 2018 and is involved with the Prosthetics division of the McMaster Medical Engineering Design Team. Mariam enjoys photography and travelling, and is especially interested in medical imaging and robotics. Mariam says, “I love writing for the iBioMed program! I hope our articles help current and prospective students gain a better understanding of the iBioMed student experience”.

Fatima Gafoor

Fatima Gafoor is a second-year iBioMed student and Ambassador specializing in Health, Engineering Science, and Entrepreneurship (HESE). She loves playing badminton and Mario Kart, trying new foods, and travelling. She currently volunteers in organizations such as Hemoglobal McMaster, and Women in STEM, and has been an iBioMed Ambassador since 2019. If you see her around, don’t forget to say “Hello”!

Ibrahim Iftikhar

Ibrahim Iftikhar is a first-year iBioMed Ambassador, aiming to specialize in the HESE stream next year! He is especially interested in the neuroscience of dreams, artificial intelligence, and innovation within the medical industry. In his free time, Ibrahim enjoys playing video games, listening to music, playing guitar, and going for runs. Ibrahim says, “I’m really excited to be part of the iBioMed Content Creation Committee and to write about this awesome program!”

Isabelle Ragany

Isabelle is a second-year iBioMed and Electrical Engineering Ambassador. She enjoys research and had the opportunity to work in Dr. Zurob’s Materials Science and Engineering lab during the Summer of 2020. Outside of school, Isabelle enjoys hiking and trying new foods. In the future, she hopes to explore the topics of robotic surgery and imaging.

Poonam Saha

Poonam is a first-year iBioMed Ambassador hoping to go into the HESE stream next year. In her free time, she likes to watch movies and TV shows, some of her favourites being Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Sherlock. If she’s not browsing Netflix looking for new shows to watch, you can catch her playing Overcooked. When reflecting upon her virtual first-year experience, she describes “All of the group projects we work on in iBioMed have really helped me make great friends in an online environment!”.

Sharanya Srirangam

Sharanya is a first-year iBioMed Ambassador planning on specializing in a Biomedical Engineering (BME) stream. She is interested in learning more about prosthetics, artificial organs, and biomedical devices. She expresses, “In my spare time, I love to draw, paint, and play the flute!”. We are excited to have Sharanya join us this year!

Amanda Tomkins

Amanda is a fourth-year iBiomed Ambassador, specializing in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. She has served as an iBioMed Ambassador since 2018 and loves interacting with current and prospective students. Amanda is also the BME Co-President of the iBioMed Society and is currently working on two projects: Freehand, a computer “mouse” for individuals with limited upper arm mobility and the Amanda Mask, which was started in response to the shortage of PPE due to Covid-19. In her free time, Amanda loves baking, cake decorating, drawing, and doing DIYs!

Jocelyn Xu

Jocelyn is another one of our first-year iBioMed Ambassadors hoping to go into the BME stream! When asked about her iBioMed experience so far, she says, “I’ve really enjoyed working on design projects and learning technical skills in labs, and I’ve loved being able to continue to expand on these skills at various virtual events!”. During her free time, Jocelyn enjoys listening to music, organizing her Notion page, watching home renovation videos, and baking banana bread.

The iBioMed Content Creation Committee hopes to showcase the iBioMed student experience and provide the McMaster community with more insight into the iBioMed program. Stay tuned for more articles being released on the iBioMed website and social media platforms!
