Established in 2004, the Faculty of Engineering Leadership Award recognizes individuals whose outstanding leadership has made a lasting impact on engineering, the university, and society at large. Lawrence Tse, who graduated from McMaster University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and later completed a Master of Science at the University of California, Berkeley, exemplifies the spirit of this award.

Lawrence is a distinguished engineering leader whose career has had a lasting impact on integrated circuits and communication systems. He has advanced semiconductor technologies through his leadership in design, development, product engineering, testing, and R&D management. Known for his ability to translate innovative concepts into production-ready technologies, he has built and inspired high-performing engineering teams within complex corporate environments. His technical achievements are reflected in more than 40 U.S. patents in semiconductor integrated circuits that underpin modern electronic devices.

In recognition of his professional excellence and service, Mr. Tse was recently named a 2026 Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has also demonstrated a strong commitment to the engineering community through his long-standing service on McMaster’s Dean’s Advisory Board and his advocacy for international student success. These accomplishments exemplify the leadership, innovation, and service celebrated by the Faculty of Engineering Leadership Award.
