**Update Nov 4, 2025 – REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.**
Welcome, Grade 9 students!
McMaster University is thrilled to welcome Grade 9 students for Take Our Kids to Work Day! This special day offers students a unique opportunity to shadow family or friends at their work, explore various career paths and gain invaluable insights into the world of work.
Take Our Kids to Work Day is more than just a day off school. It’s an opportunity for students to experience the workplace and responsibilities of different professions, prompt discussions about future education and aspirations, and get involved in various programming.
Step 1: Register with HR
All students participating in TOKTWD with a McMaster employee must register their student through the form provided by Human Resources Services even if they are not participating in any planned activities around campus.
Human Resource Services will host morning programming from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. For more details and to register for the morning session, please visit the HR registration page. Note that registration for the HR-led morning program closes on Wednesday, October 29.
Step 2: Register for scheduled programming on campus
Various partners across campus may be offering TOKTWD programming for you and your student to choose from and plan your day. It is not required for your student to participate in these activities and your student is welcome to just shadow you all day.
Please review the list of available activities on the HR TOKTWD page.
This page is specific to registration to those interested in attending a STEM workshop hosted by our McMaster Engineering Community Outreach team. Details related to this workshop below.
STEM-focused workshop with Mac Eng
The Faculty of Engineering will be hosting a STEM-focused workshop led by our Community Outreach team on Wednesday, November 5 from 1 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. Location of activity on campus will be shared with registrants only.
Rocket Kinematics: In this activity students will be able to use teamwork, the engineering design process and cost analysis to create landing gear for a 3D printed rocket to the best of their abilities. This will develop problem solving skills as well as collaboration. By comparing designs at the end of the project and discussing strategies that worked best, students will be able to learn about different ways of creating a product that is meant to achieve the same task and the creative components involved. Furthermore, students will work with the kinematics physics equation to also determine the final velocity of their rocket!
Open to all employees who are caregivers, family members or family friends of a Grade 9 student. You do not need to be a parent of a Grade 9 student and are welcome to support a Grade 9 student in your life for Take Our Kid to Work Day.
Registration deadline: End of day October 29. Students must also be registered with HR TOKTWD form.
A reminder email for this Mac Eng workshop, including the meeting and pickup locations, will be shared with all registrants closer to the event date.
We look forward to meeting you and your Grade 9 students on campus very soon!
Take Our Kids to Work Day is open to all employees in our community. If you are a caregiver, family member or family friend of a Grade 9 student, you can sponsor them for the day!
It is not mandatory to participate in various programming offered by various campus partners if you have a student shadowing you for the day. Prior to coming to campus, students must also complete the required safety trainings as disclosed in the HR registration form.
Adherence to additional safety requirements in your workplace are the sponsor’s responsibility.
