Three professors from McMaster University’s Department of Computing and Software (CAS) have been appointed to the Vector Institute, highlighting the department’s growing leadership in the field of trustworthy and foundational artificial intelligence (AI).
Hassan Ashtiani, associate professor, has been appointed as one of 13 new Faculty Members at the Vector Institute. Previously a Faculty Affiliate, Ashtiani now joins 55 Faculty Members from across Canada, including fellow CAS researcher Sivan Sabato.
In addition, Shahab Asoodeh has been renewed as one of the Institute’s 90 Faculty Affiliates, who contribute to advancing Ontario’s AI research ecosystem through collaborative projects and knowledge exchange.
Together, Ashtiani, Sabato and Asoodeh are recognized for their pioneering work in trustworthy AI, which encompasses privacy, fairness and robustness, as well as in the foundations of machine learning.
One of Canada’s premier hubs for AI research, the Vector Institute has played a pivotal role in attracting world-class AI talent to Canada and contributed significantly to the country’s vibrant AI ecosystem since its founding in 2017, fostering innovation across academia, industry and government.
