You’re not just joining an engineering program today. You’re joining a community, and from this moment on, you’re a part of the Mac Eng family.
Last week, first-year McMaster Engineering students were welcomed to campus by upper-year students, donning red suits and cowboy hats, who brought energy, enthusiasm and dedication back to campus.

Faculty Fest
Today, you are all starting in the same place, but each of you will go on to have your own unique journey at McMaster.
Faculty Fest was the perfect opportunity for students to discover all the different ways they can get involved at McMaster. They were given the opportunity to connect with over 70 clubs, teams and societies, as well as staff from the Centre, our mental health counsellor at Talk Spot and all the departments within the Faculty.
Faculty Day
Also known as Summer Olympics, the day began with remarks from Dean Heather Sheardown, MES president Will Scott and Welcome Week Co-coordinators Kyle Andrade and Angela Lewis. Flare, our Faculty’s fiery mascot, took the opportunity to don a cowboy hat and take part in the festivities.
Will shared an anecdote on how one of his reps became his friend and played a supportive role in his Mac Eng journey. He encouraged the first-year students to “carry on the community that has been cultivated by the students who came before you for the students that will come after you.”
The day also had students competing in events such as cheer offs and a Relay Race, where pod members individually grabbed a piece of clothing from a pile and then chose a member to model the finished fit.

Rolling into the weekend with the Bus Pull
For the first time since 2019, after pivoting to a U-Haul van, first-year students were able to pull a school bus again during this annual event. The event raised funds for Neighbour to Neighbour, a local Hamilton non-profit.
