Hydro One’s Women in Engineering Award open to Mac Eng students

Ten awards of $5,000 are up for grabs for undergraduate women students studying engineering.

If you are a woman McMaster Engineering student in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, you could earn a $5K award and a 12-16 month paid internship from Hydro One.

In 2014, Hydro One established the Hydro One Women in Engineering Award, an extension of Hydro One’s tangible support for young women wishing to embark on a career in Engineering.

The deadline to apply to this award is October 1, 2022, so be sure to submit your application soon!

This award is a part of The One Awards, which acknowledge and share the ingenuity of aspiring professionals to the joint benefit of Hydro One and their customers.

“Supporting women is an important part in creating sustainable change in the engineering profession. Scholarships such as the Hydro One Women in Engineering Award help uplift and inspire the next generation of women engineers and technology leaders,” says Leah Rosenthal, Associate Director, Engineering Student Recruitment & Community.

McMaster Engineering is committed to creating a more inclusive environment where a range of perspectives leads to better insights and innovation. This year, McMaster Engineering has reached a new equity milestone, with 40 per cent of incoming undergraduate students being women.

“It’s an incredible accomplishment,” says Dean of Engineering Heather Sheardown, who recently became the first woman to move into the position.

Dean Sheardown is devoted to building an engineering program that truly reflects Canadian society.

“We’ve known forever that diverse teams generate better solutions because we’re not all thinking from the same place,” she says. “The more perspectives we can get, the better the solution we’ll come up with.”
