The desire to work in a leadership role has always been part of Ryan Boyd’s career vision. And it’s also turned out to be the most satisfying.

“My favourite thing is working with great people and seeing them develop their careers and build the business,” says the 2010 mechanical engineering and management grad.
As a supervisor of stations engineering with Enbridge Gas, Boyd leads a team of engineers.
“We design, upgrade and support stations to ensure customers receive reliable and safe energy in the form of natural gas,” he says.

Launching his career with the natural gas industry right after graduation, Boyd has moved through a series of increasingly senior roles in operations, major projects and engineering.
He earned his professional engineering designation in 2015, and in 2020 added an MBA with a management specialization to his resume.

That commitment to continuous learning, as well as an open mind, have helped his career.
“I took on many stretch tasks and always asked questions about how things work and why,” he says, urging students to approach challenging situations with a learning mindset.

“Don’t be afraid of accepting a difficult task – we are typically more capable than we think.”
In addition to his engineering career, Boyd owns and operates a southwestern Ontario cash crop farm with his brother. He also volunteers as a board member with Outreach for Hunger, a foodbank in his area.

“I enjoy giving back to the community that helped to get me to where I am today,” he says. “I am also involved in many diversity and inclusivity initiatives as I believe having a more inclusive world will breed happiness, growth, and success.”
