Overview

Sam Scott joined McMaster as a teaching-track faculty member in September of 2023, bringing with him 26 years of experience teaching computer science, mathematics, cognitive science, and philosophy at the university, college, and high school levels. He teaches in the first-year engineering program (Engineering 1) and in computer science and software engineering programs (Department of Computing and Software).

Sam’s research background includes work in machine learning, natural language processing, and cognitive science. Current research interests include equity, inclusion, and the incorporation of Indigenous ways of knowing into computer science teaching and learning.

In 2011, Sam received a Certificate of Achievement from the Prime Ministers Awards for Teaching Excellence. In 2024, he received a McMaster Engineering Society Faculty Appreciation Award.
