Zalak Naik (Engineering 1)

DECA is the place where I discovered my passion for learning about entrepreneurship and the different levels of Business we surround ourselves with. DECA not only gave me the opportunity to discover my keen interest in Business, but also helped me channel myself in a professional setting.

Your DECA experience: "Walking into my high school's DECA club two years ago, I had no idea about the B to Business. It is a club that welcomes a multitude number of talents in different genres and on all different levels. DECA has played a crucial role in the growth of my public-speaking abilities. Essentially, this is the place where I discovered my passion for learning about the entrepreneurship and the different levels of Business we surround ourselves with."

Why McMaster?: "As many aspiring engineering students know, McMaster is a leader in engineering schools across the country and around the globe. The biggest attraction to McMaster for me is their general first year, leaving an unpaved path for students to truly discover their interests and specialties. Furthermore, they provide hands on experience through not only co-op, but also facilities designed specifically for engineering students. Overall, McMaster Engineering better prepares students to enter the real world in a way that is unmatched by any other."

How did DECA help prepare you for your university program?: “Going into University, I had no experience with Business courses, however, both my electives this year are in Economics. DECA not only gave me the opportunity to discover my keen interest in Business, but also helped me channel myself in a professional setting. I was able to gain experience and feedback through the entire process of DECA, on both the Regional and Provincial stages. All in all, the takeaway experience DECA has given me would definitely be my ability to express and communicate myself confidently, something I struggled with prior to joining DECA in Grade 11."
