Shaun Lee (Engineering 1)

I was in charge of social media outreach for DECA in Malaysia. DECA was new to my school and we organized the first-ever DECA conference in South East Asia. That clearly taught me about managing and collaborating with a team to ensure the success of the event.

Your DECA experience: "DECA changed me in the sense that it got me out of my old, comfort zone, and evolved into a more confident individual. DECA was fun but stressful at the same time; there's moments to enjoy and mistakes to learn from each time."

Why McMaster?: "McMaster has a community-like learning experience. The fact that there's a community to grow with and help each other encourages me to become a better version of myself. Mac's engineering course also has the option for Co-op. With co-op, I can gain experience  and knowledge from real world applications. The world outside of the classroom is a very different environment and co-op will help prepare me for that."

How did DECA help prepare you for your university program?: DECA forced me to get out of my comfort zone. It helped me in my public speaking skills as well as my confidence. Alongside bulding self-esteem, DECA also helped me with my organizing skills and leadership skills. I was in charge of social media outreach for DECA in Malaysia.
