Kenzie Lewis (Engineering 1)

McMaster provides many different opportunities to give back to the community and get involved, including build teams, engineering competitions, a wide range of clubs and sports, and the our FIRST Robotics district competition here at McMaster. All of these opportunities provide students with a great way to enrich learning!

Kenzie was a recipeint of the $15,000 Faculty of Engineering FIRST Robotics Entrance Scholarship. 

Your FIRST Robotics experience
My FIRST experience has been an adventure full of teamwork, problem-solving, and discovery. The FIRST competition gave us a chance to challenge ourselves in a safe environment where we felt comfortable offering ideas. I think that our ability to work together as a team, as well as the mentorship and advice provided by other teams at the competitions, was what really made FIRST such a special opportunity to grow and learn about STEM.

Why McMaster?
I decided to go to McMaster for the welcoming and supportive atmosphere. At McMaster, you immediately feel like part of community that wants you to succeed, and is more than willing to help you reach your goals. Many of the upper years and teaching assistants run help centres and review sessions to make sure you are able to perform your best and manage the stress that often comes with first-year University. How did FIRST help prepare you for your university program?
Throughout the season, we learned a lot about what it means to persevere while addressing issues with the robot, often under tight time constraints. I think that this really helped to prepare me for university and engineering in particular, where a lot of the projects are structured with strict deadlines. FIRST Robotics taught us to be creative and think outside the box, but also how to work as a team and respect the ideas of others to accomplish a common goal!
