Wisam Iskanderani, MEEI '10

MEEI program builds business acumen

Looking to build on his training as an industrial engineer, Wisam Iskanderani enrolled in the Master of Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEEI) program in 2009.

A decade later, Iskanderani is a partner in a leading Saudi Arabia-based management consulting firm.

Not only did the MEEI program offer a launching pad to a career in management consulting, he says it gave him a “thinking process for life.”

“It taught me how to look for information, what to do with it and how to transform it into solid conclusions,” he says. “The program combined theory with hands-on implementation, and we met with entrepreneurs, businessmen and mentors who provided great insight into the commercial world.”

After graduating, Iskanderani worked at a Canadian consulting firm for several years before returning to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to take on several management and marketing positions.

As head of marketing at Johnson Controls, he helped the YORK brand reach top 20 brands in the country.

Iskanderani is now senior director with Pure Consulting.

“We work closely with the public sector, leading several transformational programs and initiatives,” he says. “My role is to oversee the teams working on these projects, leading them into market assessment, strategy development, program delivery and execution.

“I also work closely with CEOs, Vice Ministers and other governmental officials to provide strategic advice.”

He encourages students to never stop learning, to seek out a mentor for advice, and to plan ahead.

“Think about what you are doing today, why you are doing it, and where you want to be,” he says. “Remember that positive thoughts attract good things.”
