Mrugesh Patel, BENG '12

(Mechatronics Engineering) | Manufacturing improvement

Mrugesh Patel’s job is to make the world a better place. Well, maybe not the whole world, but at least a small slice of it.

As Quality Assurance Manager at Array Marketing Ltd., Patel plans, coordinates and directs quality assurance and continuous improvement activities throughout his organization.

The 2012 mechatronics grad started his career as a process engineer before moving to a supervisory role leading a multidisciplinary team of maintenance technicians. That led to roles in quality, and health and safety management.

Along with earning his professional engineer designation, Patel is a certified radiation safety officer. He has also been certified in several quality and improvement standards.

“I love that my job brings value to the company and our customers by improving processes and systems,” says Patel. “And it helps me to sleep well at night, knowing I tried to make something better than it was yesterday.”

He also enjoys working with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex business and technical problems.

“I went with mechatronics engineering because I didn’t want to limit myself to one traditional engineering program,” he says. “With the future moving quickly towards automation, my goal was to acquire multidisciplinary skills that I could bring to a manufacturing environment.”

A co-op term as a McMaster student gave him invaluable real-world experience in the manufacturing environment, and Patel urges young people to seek hands-on experience.

“Don’t limit yourself to ‘good enough’ and never stop learning,” he adds.
