As an innovator, educator, a mentor, Dr. Voiko Loukanov left behind a legacy of kindness, love and generosity for all those fortunate to have crossed his path.
“He was the definition of love, a person who cared and loved to inspire us in many different ways,” says Kalina Loukanov, executive director of D&V Electronics and wife of Voiko, the founder of D&V, who passed away in 2016.
The Dr. Voiko Loukanov Engineering Scholarship., created by Voiko Holdings Inc., was dedicated to Voiko Loukanov, a trailblazer in automotive electronics testing equipment with a deep commitment to student research.
The $125,000 gift awards students enrolled in the Level II Engineering program with a high average and who demonstrates a commitment to automotive mechatronics and electronics testing technology.
The scholarship aspires to aid and inspire engineers to use their creativity to rise to opportunities and challenges in the future and to make Dr. Voiko Loukanov’s vision a reality.
Despite having developed relationships with many universities, Loukanov was particularly drawn to the students of McMaster and the Faculty of Engineering, including those he mentored at his D&V. He was a firm believer in the importance of investing in education and research.
“His passion was to teach and to share his knowledge and to help young students grow and become innovative and brilliant engineers who would contribute to our future. He truly believed that engineers could change the world.”
