Art Heidebrecht has had a strong connection to McMaster for the past 55 years.
He is a former Dean of Engineering (1981-89); Provost Vice-President Academic (1989-94); Civil Engineering Professor Emeritus; founder of the W Booth School of Engineering Practice and Technology’s Bachelor of Technology program and current Dean’s Advisory Board member for the Faculty of Engineering.
“McMaster has been good to me. It’s a gift to have had leadership roles here and that’s been appreciated. I feel that’s part of the reason I want to stay connected,” he says.
Another way Heidebrecht maintains his connection to the university is by giving back with the Bachelor of Technology Bursary.
“It’s an opportunity to support something I really value – to help students be successful in this program.”
During a recent tour of the W Booth School’s new Learning Factory, a world-class facility that simulates the factory of the future, he witnessed how the B. Tech program has evolved over the past 13 years.
“To see all of these things – the space, the programs and our talented students – it’s better than I ever could have imagined.”
Heidebrecht is proud to see that the program is unique in focusing on the application of theoretical knowledge and keeping technology at the forefront of teaching.
“I’d like more students to have the opportunity for this kind of education because I think it’s a very strong complement to a Bachelor of Engineering program.”
