Q: Tell us about your upcoming internship Tesla.
A: I will be developing new technologies in the field of electric vehicles, solar power and energy storage. Tesla is at the forefront of accelerating the transition to sustainable energy, and at 20 years old, there is nothing more energizing than pursuing a mission I so completely believe in.
Q: How will you apply the skills and knowledge you have gained at McMaster to this role?
A: As an NSERC [Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada] undergraduate researcher in Dr. Filipe’s Chemical and Bioengineering laboratory, I have had the privilege of developing biomedical devices to help the most underserved people. Working on projects from low cost biosensors to ensure drinking water is safe, to point of care diagnostic tools accessible to those who need them most, I was faced with diverse challenges and the opportunity to refine the skills most important to innovation. These very same skills in electronics and software development are what I will be taking with me to face the pressing issues of the day in Silicon Valley. I will be applying everything I know in hardware and software to the wide-ranging endeavours at Tesla HQ.
Q: What do you hope to gain from this internship experience?
A: Elon Musk is a visionary. Tesla is one of the most innovative engineering companies in the world. They are leading the charge and revolutionizing entire industries. I hope to learn as much as I can from the world’s top engineers, make life-long connections in this thriving innovation corridor, do as much good as possible and help as many people as I can with the skills and experiences I bring back.
