Programming a healthier tomorrow

Just as it has in myriad of other industries, technology offers the possibility of reshaping the health care system.

As Senior Manager of Operations at health tech startup InputHealth, Vianna Phillips works on the cutting edge of that possibility.

“Inputhealth creates software that improves the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery,” she explains. “Since we are still a small company, my role requires that I wear many different hats to support the growth of the company as we scale.”

“Every day, I feel lucky to be able to work with an ambitious team that is tackling one of Canada's most complex problems.”

The 2012 Mechanical Engineering & Management grad says the job builds on experience and skills she developed over six years working for ZS Management Consulting and while studying for her MBA at IE Business School in Madrid.

Her roles as a business analyst and then consultant with ZS exposed her to a range of firms across the Canadian healthcare market.

“During this time, I identified my passion for using technology and data to improve the quality of healthcare in Canada,” she says.

She says her current position allows her to use her analytical skills and work as part of a team to help people.

Her advice to students is to enjoy the career journey.

“The people that you work with are just as important as the job you are doing.” says Phillips. “Seek out colleagues and mentors who are going to challenge you to do your best and support you as you learn and grow.

“As you gain experience and grow your network, new opportunities will present themselves and you will be able to direct your path toward your passions as you discover them.”
