‘Tis the season for giving! Searching for the perfect gift can be a daunting task. Luckily, we’re here to help! Here are eight unique holiday gift ideas created by McMaster Engineering alumni that are bound to impress.

Nix mini colour sensor

The Nix Mini Colour Sensor is perfect for the artist or designer in your life. From amateur DIYers to professional graphic and interior designers, this gift is sure to please. 

The company was founded by Mechatronics Engineering and Management graduate, Matthew Sheridan in 2012.

Fresh Mitts Hand Deodorizer 

Know an athlete with smelly hands? Fresh Mitts is a gift for both of you. A small scoop is all it takes to kill odor-causing bacteria and eliminate that gross sweaty-gloves smell for good. 

Fresh Mitts was created by Mike Dawson, Electrical Engineering and Management graduate, hockey player, and former captain of the McMaster lacrosse team.

Ingenious: How Canadians Innovators Made the World Smarter, Smaller, Kinder, Safer, Healthier, Wealthier, and Happier

Looking for a page turner to fuel your entrepreneurial spirit? Published in 2017 to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, Ingenious delves into some of Canada's most noteworthy innovations – think the BlackBerry, peanut butter and the lightbulb, just to name a few. 

Tom Jenkins is an Engineering and Management in Engineering Physics alumnus from McMaster, and currently serves as Chair of the Board of OpenText in Waterloo. He co-wrote Ingenious with former Governor General David Johnston.

Suluk 46 Ultralight Backcountry Tools 

Suluk 46 expertly engineers ultra-light backcountry tools, with materials strong enough to endure extreme outdoor conditions. From cooking supplies to digging tools, you can find a wide variety of gear for your favourite adventurer on their website. 

Mechanical Engineering graduate and backcountry adventurer, Steve Evans, founded the company in 2008. Unable to find products that could keep up with his high-intensity hikes, Evans decided to design his own.

 

Terry Fallis’ latest book : Albatross

The book follows high-school student Adam Coryell as he discovers his prodigious talent in golf and gets propelled into stardom, only to realize that he doesn’t really like golf. 

“Heartwarming and funny, sweeping and entertaining, Terry Fallis's new book takes readers on a journey of self-discovery,” reads the description on the book. 

Terry Fallis graduated from the Mechanical Engineering program at McMaster in 1983. Since then, he has written seven best-selling novels, earning him the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, twice, among other awards.

Eco Pen

Looking for a sustainable way to gift this season? Each Eco Pen is made of recycled paper and embedded with seeds. Once the ink runs out, simply plant and water the tip of the pen and recycle the rest.

The company EcoP was founded in 2017 by W Booth School graduate students Rucha Kolte and Ali Awais Amin. They offer a range of environmentally conscious products, including a bamboo notebook, plantable cards, and an eco kit. 

Furious Formulations 

Looking for a gift for your favourite workout buddy? Look no further! 

Furious Formulations is a sports nutrition supplement company founded by Furious Pete (Peter Czerwinski), a competitive eater, bodybuilder, and Mechanical Engineering McMaster alumnus. Check out his widly popular Youtube channel (more than 5 million subscribers!) for workout videos and crazy eating challenges!
