WAITLIST Venture Academy- Grades 7&8 Terrific Technology

This summer we are offering four traditional style virtual camps that run in July and August. Each camp is one week long, 4 days a week and every two weeks there are new projects which are all completely free! This means each student can do up to four weeks of virtual camp with us and get to complete new projects and design challenges each time.

McMaster University Parent/Guardian Consent and Waiver This Parent/Guardian Consent and Waiver MUST be signed/initialed by a parent or legal guardian for the participant minor as named below who is participating in the Venture Virtual Academy Program (the “Program”) within the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University. In accordance with the section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) McMaster University is seeking consent to host the Program with the participant minor as named below (the “Participant Minor”). 1. By signing this Consent and Waiver I agree and acknowledge that: 1.1 The Participant Minor’s participation in the Program is NOT MANDATORY; 1.2 It is not a requirement for the Participant Minor to have the video on but can choose to turn it on. However, it is a requirement of the Program that the microphone is set to on; 1.3 There will be other participants in the Program, such as but not limited to: 1.3.1 employees of Venture Academy with the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, 1.3.2 other registered participant minors of the Program, and 1.3.3 if requested by their parents/guardians, the parents/guardians of other registered participant minors; 1.4 The Program will be recorded for security reasons; 1.5 McMaster University may use any media content recorded or taken during the Program for promotional material for McMaster University, Venture Academy and Actua without any further permission or payment; 1.6 The Program is provided in an online/virtual environment via Zoom and any documents uploaded/online activities participated in Zoom may be recorded, disclosed and stored to secure Zoom servers located outside Canada, which may be subjected to the laws of foreign jurisdictions. For more information on what Zoom is doing to protect the information and privacy of youth and young adults you can click here). 1.7 McMaster University is not responsible nor liable for any technical issues that may occur during the Program, including but not limited to, accessing the Program via the Program Zoom link; and 1.8 I am responsible for the condition of any tools or equipment appropriate or needed for the Participant Minor to participate in the Program; and 1.9 I am responsible for ensuring that the Participant Minor will have and will wear equipment suitable for safety and properly participating in the Program. 2. I release McMaster University, its directors, officers, employees, agents and contractors (the “Released Parties”) from all claims, costs, damages, liability or responsibility whatsoever for personal injury, property damage, breach of personal information, security breaches, use of third party services, wrongful death howsoever caused, including, but not limited to, the negligence of the Released Parties, whether passive or active, which arise from my participation in the Program and related activities. 3. I acknowledge and agree that the Participant Minor’s participation in the Program and associated activities may have inherent risks as a result of which personal injury, including death, property damage or breach of personal information may occur and I accept and assume all such risks arising from the Program and related activities and hereby waive my individual right to commence legal action against the Released Parties for all claims I, or the Participant Minor, my representatives, may have for such personal injury, death or property damage. 4. I understand and agree that I am not only giving up my right to sue the Released Parties but also any rights my heirs, assigns or beneficiaries may have to sue the Released Parties resulting from my death. 5. I confirm that I have read and understood this Consent and Waiver and agree that by initialing in the box below, this agreement will be binding on me, the Participant Minor and on my, and their, heirs, next of kin, executors and administrators. 6. I agree that this Consent and Waiver shall be governed in all respects by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
The Venture Virtual Academy Program within the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University is a free summer program for grades 3 to 12 that brings the excitement of engineering to life. Our curriculum develops problem solving skills and engages young minds through experiments, hands-on projects, and fun, education-based activities. Gain a deeper understanding of science, mathematics and technology while exploring today’s most exciting areas of engineering and computer science. Enriching, hands-on activities encourage creativity, personal growth and a passion for learning. Virtual Camp Code of Conduct Venture Virtual Academy we require that all students respect their fellow classmates, instructors and the online learning platform. All students must: • Respect the integrity of all online systems and networks; • Ensure respect in all written and verbal communication; • Obey directions from instructors; • Follow safety requirements of each project and; • Be active and engaged participants in the learning environment. In McMaster University’s sole discretion, any student who does not adhere to the Code of Conduct and/or demonstrate respect for the online learning environment in all its capacities will be removed from the learning platform and the Venture Virtual Academy Program and a guardian will be contacted.
