Creating a classroom space where students are excited to learn can be a challenge. This workshop will explore techniques to involve students in their own learning, encourage them to be leaders in their own success and discuss ways to create a lively and dynamic classroom which meets the needs of a diverse group of learners.

This workshop is offered by Stephanie Verkoeyen, Program & Educational Developer with the MacPherson Institute.  She will cover:

  • A brainstorm of elements of an engaged classroom;
  • An overview of expectancy-value theory and how it applies to your students;
  • Sharing how you’re already establishing value and/or building positive expectancies in your classroom and learning from your peers’ experiences; and
  • Identifying strategies you’d like to experiment with to further engage your students

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  1. Identify expectancy and value motivators of student learning
  2. Apply strategies to build positive expectancies and/or establish value in your classroom
