This two-day workshop, intended for those interested in pedagogical research, will provide participants with foundational knowledge and skills in designing and carrying out education-related studies involving humans grounded in the scientific process. We will cover research design, data collection methods, and analysis on the first day. We will discuss the research ethics process on the second day and share lessons from previous projects.

Overview

Expected Learning Outcomes or take-aways: Initial understanding of how to start conducting pedagogical research that is scientifically rigorous and ethically approved. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Formulate research questions relevant to pedagogical interests.
  2. Distinguish different research methods and apply methods relevant to the research question(s).
  3. Understand various data analysis methods.
  4. Articulate the rationale and significance for obtaining ethical approval for pedagogical research.
  5. Describe the process required to gain ethics approval through MREB.

Note: participants must register for both days
