Electron holography: working principles and applications.


Electron holography is a powerful technique that allows the phase shift of a high-energy electron wave that has passed through a specimen in the transmission electron microscope (TEM) to be measured directly. The phase shift can then be used to provide quantitative information about local variations in magnetic field and electrostatic potential both within and surrounding the specimen. The origin of the technique and the working principles will be presented, together with relevant applications and examples.


Elisabetta Maria Fiordaliso was awarded her PhD in condensed matter physics at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2012, after completing her graduate education at Pisa University, Italy.  Afterwards, she was a postdoc at the Center for Electron Microscopy (DTU Cen) working with nano-materials and characterization by electron microscopy. Since 2017 she is a scientific researcher at DTU Nanolab (Center for nanofabrication and electron microscopy characterization) working with characterization of semiconductor nanowires by electron holography.
