Information for future Graduate students.

Overview

The department offers courses of study and research leading to the Master's (both thesis and project and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. We currently have approximately 170 full-time graduate students. The main research areas actively pursued by the members of the department are: biomedical engineering, CAD/optimization/simulation, communications, computer engineering, image processing and multimedia, microelectronics, microwaves, networks, photonics/optoelectronics, power engineering and signal processing.

Graduate Student Funding

Students with admission who receive funding - these are approximate amounts:

    • Visa - M.A.Sc. $34,105.58
    • Visa - Ph.D. $25,105.58
    • Cdn/LI M.A.Sc. $24,105.58
    • Cdn/LI - Ph.D. $25,105.58
    • M.ENG students receive no funding.

Graduate Admissions

IMPORTANT

PLEASE DO NOT HIT THE SUBMIT BUTTON UNTIL ALL MATERIAL IS UPLOADED FOR A COMPLETED APPLICATION. ONCE YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THE APPLICATION NOTHING CAN BE CHANGED or ADDED.

Please do not mail any material to the ECE department unless we request it from you.

Applications once submitted initially read initiated. To complete the application this has to be done by the administrator as it is not automatic. The administrator will change the status as soon as possible.

PLEASE NOTE

If any of the requested material is not uploaded at the time of application your application may be declined without review.

Steps for Application

Please download the application

  1. Please ensure that you have all information ready to upload at once - no material should be sent to the ECE department unless requested by the ECE department. Applicants that do not load all information (a-g as below) there will be a delay in processing/reviewing the application.
  2. Material to be uploaded for a completed application:
    1. One official transcript of academic work completed. If not final transcipts with degree conferred, please upload up to date transcripts.
    2. Two confidential letters of recommendation from academic referees most familiar with your academic work. ONLY academic references will be accepted. Once you have submitted the application the referee will automatically receive the request.

      If for some reason you are unable to use the Electronic Referencing System, you can download the Reference form

      Referee will need to send this filled out form to gies@mcmaster.ca

    3. TOEFL requirement: 92

       IELTS requirement: 6.5

       if applicable

    4. Statement of Interest in pursuing graduate studies. (one page) - This Statement of Interest is mandatory.
    5. Area of Interest form for declaring your Field of Study. This form is also mandatory.
    6. Please upload CV.
    7. Record of Landing - For permanent residents ONLY. Please scan and upload front and back of your card.

Application Status

You can check your application status online

Phone or email queries for status updates on your application will not be provided.

Application Complete

Once the status is "Complete" there is nothing further for you to do.

CHECKLIST

  • Please note that due to the volume of applications received the checklist will not be updated right away until ALL material arrives which includes the academic references. If after 20 days your application has not been updated, please contact gies@mcmaster.ca, stating in the Subject Line "No update in status after 20 days". Application will be updated and you will be able to check application status as above.
  • Applications are processed manually and Checklists in Mosiac are updated manually. This may mean that your Application Checklist may say "Initiated" despite the application material being submitted or "Completed".

If applicant receive's an offer from McMaster you would then need to provide above original final transcripts and this would be stated in offer letter.

Domestic - Friday, October 25, 2019

For May admissions please apply in the open portal. ALL
material to the ECE department no later than Friday, October 26, 2019,
these will also carry forward for September 2020.
