McMaster Engineering provides many programs and activities geared to the interests and abilities of elementary and high school students. These programs introduce students to the engineering profession and allow them to advance their skills and knowledge in this area. They also provide students with a chance to make friends and have fun.

The Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, in partnership with Actua and Indigenous Student Services, will be a hosting two day overnight conference at McMaster University to engage Indigenous adolescents in engineering and science.

Outreach for Girls Conference

The focus of this conference is to enable young women in grades 9 to 12 to participate in fun, engaging and informative programming to inspire them to consider the wide-ranging and impactful opportunities within the engineering profession. Students will participate in hands-on projects, be mentored by high-achieving female engineering students, talk to our female faculty, and meet new friends.

Learning Enrichment Advancement Program

Learning Enrichment Advancement Program

LEAP is an intensive summer program offered in July and August to high-school students who have a strong academic record and who excel in science or engineering. The program combines lectures, design projects,  laboratory experiments, industry tours, and extracurricular events.

Venture Science and Engineering Camp

Venture Science and Engineering Camp

Venture is a summer day camp for students in grades 1 through 8. Activities are designed to blend engineering, science, computers and technology with hands-on experience and creative opportunities. 

FIRST Robotics

FIRST Robotics

McMaster Engineering is host to one of Canada’s premier science, technology and engineering competitions for high school-aged students. The district competition is one of several in a series of successive events FIRST Robotics runs in Ontario.

BASEF Science Fair

BASEF Science Fair

Venture and LEAP put on an hour-long presentation/ show for the participants and visiting schools at the BASEF Science Fair conducted at Mohawk College, with a total of over 1000 students. A Venture and LEAP camp bursary was also awarded to deserving participants for innovative projects.

One of our biggest initiatives are girls only events. These events take place during different parts of the year and reach a wide range of ages. All programming is free, and offer a diverse set of challenges and opportunities for girls to experience

Indigenous Outreach

Indigenous Outreach

As we work together with the surrounding communities, we help to build confidence and inspire Indigenous students to become excited about engineering and science. Recently we have been able to reach many schools and students through youth programs, school workshops, our yearly STEM conference and our summer program.
