Bachelor of Technology (BTech) students are invited to get connected during this optional and FREE 5-day workshop series between August 23rd to August 27th. This series includes everything from general and stream-specific workshops, networking opportunities, a designathon and more! Students will be given a chance to connect with their stream-specific studies (Process Automation Technology, Automotive Vehicle Technology, And Biotechnology) as well as with Generalized BTech content and meet students and faculty alike.

What is BTech CONNECT

BTech CONNECT is an optional 5-day workshop series available to all students entering their first year of any sub-stream in the BTech program. Sessions include introductions to lab software, an upper-year student panel, a meet-the-department panel, our first-ever designathon, and more! If you are an incoming BTech student, this is a great opportunity to get an introduction to various stream-specific topics and content, while also learning leadership and interpersonal skills. You will also have the chance to participate in networking opportunities where you can connect with new and upper-year BTech students.

Workshop Schedule

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM EST - Kick-off, Student Panel, Department Panel

Recieve an introduction to the EMBER team and the workshops to come over the following days. Meet BTech faculty from each stream as well as student resource offices and outreach. Sessions with existing students and Alumni will give you insight into the program from a student perspective and give you an opportunity to ask questions that you may have about your first years.

Depending on your specific BTech stream, you will have signed up for ONE of the following three workshops.

9:00 AM to 12:30 PM EST - Automation Controls Workshop

Learn the basics of microcontroller systems with an introduction to Arduino, Actuators, Sensors, and basic coding principles. Learn to design programs based on given tasks and how to problem solve. Students will walk through a tutorial of introductory concepts before partaking in a workshop designed to build on their skills useful in first year.

10:00 AM to 12:30 PM EST - Automotive Vehicle Systems Workshop

Get a virtual tour of the McMaster Automotive Resource Center (MARC) and an introduction to Automotive course content. Meet with some of your professors and see some of the upper year capstone projects produced by alumni and students.

9:00 AM to 12:30 PM EST - Biotechnology Introductory Workshop

Biotechnology is a broad stream of engineering and the career possibilities are endless. In our workshop, you will get the chance to mingle with your future colleagues, learn more about the various paths of biotechnology and share your vision of what biotechnology means to you!

10:00 AM to 12:00 PM EST - The Great GENTECH Idea Jam
