Overview

Specific Research Activities

My current research interest relates to applying Operations Research techniques such as optimization to manufacturing problems. The work consists of developing new models of manufacturing systems and operations and using them to solve specific problems and/or to gain insights. Some specific research activities are:

  • Developing decision making models for investment in improvement of manufacturing systems.
  • Creating new production lot sizing models for manufacturing operations where WIP costs are significant.
  • Developing exact algorithms for 2-D nesting problems and cutting stock models for minimizing waste of sheet materials.
  • Creating agents for evaluating product reliability trends based on warranty database data.
  • Investigating intelligent open die forging as a new solid freeform fabrication/rapid prototyping process
