What is SELECT?

SELECT is the new student leadership development program for undergraduate students in McMaster Engineering who are also involved in extracurricular activities. The program features allow students to gain practical and theoretical leadership training, interact with successful young alumni and students across departments and years of study, and prepare themselves for success both in their extracurricular endeavours and in their careers.

Who should join SELECT?

  • Students with actively beginning or current involvement in any extracurricular activity on campus (e.g. SRA, Engineering Outreach, MES, any club or team)*
  • Students who want to increase their personal, team and organisational leadership potential

*For SELECT Level 1, target students are in their first or second year of their studies, with varying levels of involvement in their extracurricular groups. More experienced student leaders and graduates of Level 1 are welcome to SELECT Level 2, which begins September 2012.

How does SELECT work?

    • Completion of mandatory co-curricular modules and evaluation leads to SELECT Leadership Certificate at each level
    • Peer mentorship across program levels and years of study (not a requirement for Leadership Certificate)
    • Partnership with Mac Eng student groups for new member integration and training, as well as feedback
    • Consultations and opportunities to contribute to SELECT program experience
    • Level 1 and Level 2 applications open May 2012 for Sept 2012 intake
