Remembering Professor Arthur Gladwin

June 10, 2010

Professor Arthur Gladwin, a long time faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, passed away on June 6 after a long illness.  He was 93.

Prof. Gladwin was appointed the first Head of the Electrical Engineering Department in the early 1960s by then Dean Jack Hodgins.  As the Faculty was quite young and the Department quite new, it fell to Prof. Gladwin to establish the undergraduate laboratories needed to support the electrical engineering programs being introduced.  He set a very high standard for both teaching and research.

Prof. Gladwin was born in Scotland at the end of World War I.  He attained Doctorate degrees at Glasgow and London Universities. He retired from McMaster in 1975.
