Lifetime Innovator Award for Prof. MacGregor
June 29, 2010
John MacGregor, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering, was presented with the McMaster Lifetime Innovator Award at the third annual McMaster Innovation Showcase on June 17.
The award was in recognition of his pioneering efforts to introduce university and industry collaboration at McMaster. He initially did so through the award-winning McMaster Advanced Control Consortium, which recently celebrated its 22nd anniversary, and continues to do so today through his company Prosensus Inc. MacGregor founded ProSensus Inc., a high-tech company that applies multivariate analysis technology, initially developed through MACC, to various industrial applications to improve product and process quality and efficiency. The company, which has an exclusive license with McMaster, currently employs a dozen full-time engineers, selling services and products to mainly Fortune 500 companies.
The Lifetime Innovator Award is one of three presented annually at the Showcase. This year, Joseph Kim, assistant professor of psychology, neuroscience & behaviour, was chosen as the McMaster Innovator of the Year. Spectral Diagnostics Inc. received the McMaster Industry Partner Award. Read the news story.
The graduate student poster competition has also become a tradition at the Showcase. The winning poster is voted for by Showcase attendees. This year’s winner was Scott Fitzpatrick, a PhD student in chemical engineering, for work he is doing to develop a temperature-induced phase transition drug delivery system to treat eye disease.
