Ontario Funds 75 New International Scholarships

Top international students looking to pursue PhD studies in Canada can now apply for a new scholarship introduced by the Government of Ontario and Ontario universities.

Premier Dalton McGuinty announced the new Ontario Trillium Scholarship program November 4 in Hong Kong. 

Each Ontario Trillium Scholarship is worth $40,000 annually, renewable for a maximum of four years.

The first scholarships will be available to students starting in the September 2011 school term.  Equal numbers of scholarships will be available from partiipating Ontario universities. 

Ontario is investing $20 million to support the program, with participating universities contributing a further $10 million.

In 2009-10, over 38,000 international students were enrolled at Ontario postsecondary institutions.
