New Director of Engineering I Appointed

Spencer Smith, associate professor of computing and software, has been appointed director of Engineering I. The appointment is effective as of January 1, 2009.

Engineering I is the common first-year program taken by all engineering students at McMaster. It provides an introduction to the engineering profession and the education fundamentals required to continue into one of 44 available degree options in the second year of study. Engineering I also provides support services and programs to help students transition from high school into university.

"I am hoping to use my own experiences as a graduate of McMaster's Engineering program to help our first year students with the important transition from high school to university."

Prof. Smith, P.Eng., obtained his B.Eng., M.Eng. and PhD from McMaster University.
