Holiday Door Winners Give Santa a Warm Welcome
December 16, 2009
Santa better watch out when he slides down the chimney in the Computing and Software office this Christmas. He's being welcomed by the glowing embers of a digital fireplace.
The Department of Computing and Software was named this year's winner of the Faculty of Engineering's annual Holiday Door Decorating Contest.
The announcement was made by judges from the McMaster Engineering Society (MES) at the annual Faculty Holiday Open House held December 15.
The Department's door features a computer monitor displaying a yule fireplace and showing Santa's boots up on the roof top as he prepares to slide down the chimney.
Runner-up was the Associate Dean (Academic)'s door framed with a giant candy cane entrance to the North Pole. Honourable mention went to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, which created a Gift of Giving door filled with hats, mittens and scarves to be given to the less fortunate this holiday season.
"There were a lot of really innovative doors this year," said Brendan Wood, President of MES and a contest judge along with Kansas Price, Vice-President Social, and Kyle Heywood, Vice-President External. "The Computing and Software, and Electrical and Computer Engineering, doors were really cool because they were interactive."
Judging criteria included originality, execution, first impression, environmental impact, and diversity.
Computing and Software receives the grand prize of a morning break-time treat compliments of the Dean for winning the contest.
