New Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program

March 18, 2009

There will be a new Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) available in the Faculty of Engineering for summer 2009. There are significant differences between this new version and previous UROPs with respect to student eligibility, funding structure, and application process.

UROP has been redesigned to provide senior, high-performing undergraduate students with summer research positions, and lead to opportunities in graduate studies at McMaster. Program content will include work on a research project, a lecture series, and a final poster symposium.

In this new version, there will be 25 positions across the Faculty, distributed on a first come first served basis. Half will be for students currently registered at McMaster, the remainder will be for students registered at other Canadian universities.

Student Eligibility:
• students must have completed their next-to-final year of studies,
• have a minimum B- average, and
• be a domestic student (Canadian citizen or landed immigrant).

Faculty members will develop research proposals, and promote their opportunities to potential applicants. The Engineering Co-op and Career Services (ECCS) office will administer the program.

These awards are not available to students with other internship awards (e.g. NSERC USRAs).
