College to University Engineering Success Project
September 13, 2013
The McMaster-Mohawk Bachelor of Technology program is holding a conference on credit transfer and degree completion. This conference will take place October 23rd, 2013 and will include institutions involved in post-secondary education credit transfer projects and programs.
About the Project:
Engineering degree completion programs give college students options for upward career mobility, professional licensing, and further education at the graduate level. In order to minimize the number of repeated courses and ensure a transparent and consistently applied transfer system, a block credit model has been used at McMaster for the B.Tech. Degree Completion Program since 1997.
The C2U Engineering Success Project is the only study to date that connects the dots between college feeder programs and success in university. Looking at over 800 students during the period of 2006 to 2012, the study also considers the correlation of external factors such as time gaps in between college and university, as well as pace of learning (full-time vs. part-time).
With the goal of fostering a culture of cooperation, the C2U conference will bring together sending colleges with B.Tech. faculty and staff for an open dialogue on the Project findings. Importantly, the C2U conference will initiate a feedback loop between sending and receiving institutions to ensure that students have the smoothest transition possible and the best chance for success.
The C2U Conference is a FREE, one day event sponsored by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities. All are welcome to attend. Who should attend on October 23?
- Administrators and faculty of college engineering programs
- Academic or career counsellors, pathways officers, transfer agreement officials at the University or College level
- Anyone wishing to hear from experience about one of the first and largest multi-lateral block transfer programs in Ontario!
