The J.W. Hodgins Memorial Lecture was established by the Faculty of Engineering in 1983 as a memorial to Dr. John W. Hodgins, McMaster's first Dean of Engineering. Each year, a prominent guest is invited to share their insights into how technological and scientific advancements are reshaping our society.

Hear what the future holds for our global water and energy issues. The
United Nations identifies the water and sanitation crisis as one
of the greatest human development challenges of our time. Recognizing
the gravity of this problem early in his career, Andrew Benedek will tell
the story of ZENON, how a little McMaster spin out became the global technology
leader in the battle to provide clean water to the world. He will
share lessons learned and will review our current global water and energy
issues and present future thoughts on improving our world.
Andrew Benedek Biography
Andrew Benedek is an internationally respected authority on water-related issues. After coordinating the Wastewater Research Group at McMaster, Dr. Benedek founded the firm ZENON Environmental in 1980. Under his leadership the firm pioneered the use of advanced membrane technologies to solve water quality problems around the world. Dr. Andrew Benedek is the author of more than 100 scientific papers on different water and wastewater technologies, and has lectured extensively on these subjects to learned societies around the world.
