Society Focus Electives and Minors

Every Society student self selects a group of focus electives that is in line with their individual interests. Many students wish to earn a formal minor, which requires a few more courses above the Society focus elective requirements. As a guide to students entering the Society Programme, the following summarizes the details of a number of popular minor areas, along with example course selections for graduated students.

Minor in Geography

To obtain a minor in Geography a student must complete a total of 24 units by taking 6 units from ENVIR SC 1A03, 1B03, 1G03, GEO 1HA3, 1HB3; 18 units from Level 2, 3, 4 GEO including at least 6 units of Level 3 or 4. No more than 6 units may be from GEO 2RC3, 2RU3, 3RJ3, 3RW3.

Minor in Business

To obtain a minor in Business a student must complete a total of 24 units by taking 6 units from ECON 1A06 or 1B03 and 1BB3; 18 units COMMERCE 2AA3, 2AB3, 2BA3, 2BC3 (or 3BC3), 2FA3, 2KA3 (or 2QB3), 2MA3, 2QA3, 3FA3, 3MC3.

Minor in Theatre and Film

To obtain a minor in Theatre and Film a student must complete a total of 24 units of Theatre and Film courses.

Minor in French

To obtain a minor in French a student must complete a total of 24 units by taking 6 units from FRENCH 1A06, 2M06; 9 units FRENCH 2B03, 2BB3, 3C03; 3 units from FRENCH 2E03, 2F03, 2J03, 2JJ3, 2W03, 2WW3, 3AA3, 3K03, 3KK3, 3Q03, 3QQ3, 3W03, 3WW3, 3Y03, 3Z03; 6 units from Level 2 or 3 French, excluding FRENCH 2M06 and 2Z06.

Minor in Religious Studies

To obtain a minor in Religious Studies a student must complete a total of 24 units of Religious Studies courses with no more than 6 units from Level 1.

Minor in Psychology

To obtain a minor in Psychology a student must complete a total of 24 units by taking 3 units from PSYCH 1AA3, 1X03; 21 units from PSYCH 1A03, 1XX3, Level 2, 3 Psychology courses, including at least six units from Level 3 Psychology courses.

Minor in Biochemistry

To obtain a minor in Biochemistry a student must complete a total of 24 units by taking 6 units from CHEM 1A03, 1AA3; 6 units from CHEM 2OA3, 20B3; 6 units from BIOCHEM 2B03, 2BB3, 2EE3, 3D03, 3G03, HTH SCI 2E03; 6 units from Level 3, 4 Biochemistry.
