Careers in Management

Engineering Advanced Degrees

It is not uncommon for engineering and management graduates to go on to take advanced degrees in engineering such as an M.Sc., M.Eng., or a Ph.D.  These typically build on the student’s already considerable technical expertise, although others diversify students’ capabilities into non technical areas.  For example, at McMaster, graduates can take a Master in Engineering Design, a Master in Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation, or a Master in Engineering and Public Policy.

Law and Medicine

Engineering graduates sometimes go on for law or medical degrees.  For example, some specialize in patent law which allows them to leverage their technical background.  Others practice other fields of law.  The same is true for medicine.  Engineering and management graduates can specialize in a technical aspect of medicine or enter more general practice.  They also have the option of transitioning into hospital management which takes advantage of their engineering, management and medical background.  Consult the websites of the appropriate universities to learn about opportunities and requirements.

Other Advanced Degrees

Other engineering and management graduates go on to a variety of other graduate programs such as teacher’s college, science, or math programs depending upon the non-engineering interests they develop over the years.

The engineering and management degree is an extremely robust one which is considered good preparation for a number of advanced degrees.
