PrintB. Eng Work Term Cycles
Engineering and Computer Science students, in all streams and disciplines, are eligible to participate in co-op. The program offers students the flexibility to customize a curriculum that combines academic study and work terms in a way that suits student goals. The McMaster Engineering Co-op program is optional: even if a student does not complete the required 12 months of work experience, the student will still graduate with the respective Degree, provided all academic requirements have been met. (The only difference would be the absence of the “Co-op” designation from the academic transcripts.)
Co-op work terms MUST coordinate with the academic terms. For this reason the work term durations are as follows:

May starts: 4, 12 or 16-month work term

September starts: 8 or 12-month work term

January starts: 12-month work term
All students are eligible to work for 4-month summer terms. However, to be considered eligible for work terms of longer than 4 months’ duration (also known as internship), students must be in their next-to-final year of studies (in year 3 of 4-year degree programs, or in year 4 of 5-year degree programs). Please note that students are only eligible to complete ONE long-term work-term of 8, 12 or 16 months.
