A key component in Civil Engineering education is the mechanics of deformable bodies. Although the problem solving techniques in these areas have significantly evolved over the years, the underlying fundamental principles, i.e. the notions of equilibrium, compatibility of deformations, etc., remain the same.

For those who might be interested, we are making available the lecture notes prepared by Professor G. Oravas, which were used in an introductory course on Engineering Mechanics, formerly taken by Chemical and Electrical Engineering students. These notes give a very systematic and rigorous treatment of the basic principles and provide a meaningful introduction to the area of Mechanics and Materials.
