Research Interests

  • Uncertainty Analysis
  • Watershed Planning and Storm Water Management
  • Analytical Probabilistic Storm Water Models (APSWM)
Specific Research Interests and Activities:

Uncertainty Analysis in Support of Water Resources Decision-Making
Major sources of uncertainties encountered in water resources planning and engineering are identified and quantified for specific projects or conditions. Uncertainty analysis methodologies are applied to problems such as precision estimation of constituent load calculations, evaluation of the accuracy and reliability of modeling results, as well as frequency analysis of hydrologic and environmental extremes. Incorporation of more rigorous and more comprehensive uncertainty analysis into all levels of water resources decision-making is the main objective of this research area.

Modeling and Analysis in Support of Watershed Planning and Storm Water Management
Watershed planning and storm water management require the development of hydrologic models of various spatial and temporal scales. This research area focuses on the modification and proper application of available hydrological models to study specific processes that are of importance for a region or a type of land use activity. Deterministic and stochastic components addressing particular aspects of environmental hydrology are developed and added to large modeling packages and applied to solve practical problems.

Development and Testing of Analytical Probabilistic Storm Water Models (APSWM)
A suite of analytical probabilistic urban storm water models have been developed and preliminarily tested. More testing is underway and more development is required to address some additional aspects of urban storm water management. Also envisioned is the incorporation of these computationally efficient models into conventional deterministic software packages.

The first beta version of the software can be downloaded from APSWM. The Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 has to be installed on your computer in order to run APSWM, if you do not have it, it can be downloaded from here.
