50th Anniversary Time Capsule 50th Anniversary

What does the future hold?  A host of keepsakes collected by the Faculty of Engineering to mark its 50th anniversary in 2008 and sealed in a time capsule to be opened October 18, 2058.

To uncover this bounty of the past, Faculty torchbearers will need to make their way to the engineering building now under construction near the University’s Main Street entrance.  Entombed by the front doors, beside what should be a magnificent tree and an aging park bench, will be a beer keg, generously emptied and donated by students in the Faculty of Engineering, and filled to the brim with photos, pins, programs, literature, clothing, and other mementos from a year filled with festivities and celebrations.

Assembled by the Engineering Alumni Office, with the help of the Young Engineering Alumni Advisory Committee, and many volunteers, the 50th Anniversary Time Capsule, was sealed in a special procession and ceremony held at the Faculty’s 50th Anniversary Gala on October 18, 2008 in the David Braley Athletic Centre.

Overseeing the sealing of the time capsule were more than 500 alumni, faculty and staff, under the direction of Jay Ingram, host of Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet, and master-of-ceremonies for the evening gala.
